| Ningbo Archives is an archives of sub-provincial level, located at No.69, North Jiefang Road, to the west of Ningbo municipal government, neighboring East Zhongshan Road in the downtown area. It has two signs showing Ningbo Archives and Ningbo Archives Bureau. Its main functions fall into two categories: administrative management on archives, custody and use of the archives above the city level. It is not only an archives inquiry service center, but also a base for patriotism education in Ningbo. Besides, it offers such services as archives inquiry, exhibition, education, academic exchange and leisure. At present, Ningbo Archives holds more than 300,000 volumes of archives, which fall into two sections: archives before 1949 and those after 1949. Archives after 1949 are composed of archives from various organs of county level and organs and enterprises of city level. The archives give a concentrated reflection of the developments of the city in economy, politics and culture since 1949. Among the archives the local chorography and newspapers and periodicals are of high value. Over 20,000 documents have been made open, which are from various departments of Ningbo municipal government, including local laws and regulations issued by the municipal government and industry standards and codes. Those documents are important for the citizens to know the policies and act accordingly. Archives Inquiry Center and Open Documents Center in the first floor have reception counter, archive reading room, and current documents reading room. Thanks to well-developed LAN and database, searching system is available, providing various searching service including browse search, search by subjects and themes, advanced search, search engine, for archives, public information of governments, photos and videos. |

As an important base for patriotism education, the Archives has been reinforcing its function of education, featuring time spirit, local characteristics, and cultural taste. Cultural activities held include the Exhibition of Old Pictures with the theme of great changes in Ningbo in the course of time; Celebration of 60th Anniversary of War of Resistance against Japanese invaders and Anti-fascism War; the Celebration of 70th Anniversary of the Long March by The Red Army; Exhibition of Achievements in Combating Corruption and Building Clean Government and Archives in the Qing Dynasy and Culture in Zhejiang. Rich in content, these activities have met people's needs for culture enjoyment, attracting over 50,000 visitors in total.
In accordance with the requirements from the National Archives and Central Archives to build archives organizations of various levels into "archives bases for the State and the Party, base for patriotism education and archives inquiry center", Ningbo Archives have been giving special attention to technology content, cultural taste and public accessibility, striving to enrich its collections, and build digitalized archives so as to make itself a modern Archives of multiple services.
